Nostalgia is negation, sadness is rebellion

An ice cold reply to the alienated world coming from two warm beating hearts. The duo of Larissa Iceglass and William Maybelline appear as true romantics of the modern age, admiring William Wordsworth, fascinated by the beauty of art nouveau aesthetics, exploring British seashores and forests at night as well as inspired by the urbanism of Berlin.

New Model Army

New Model Army recently celebrated over 40 years of performing and recording with a series of delayed 40th Anniversary shows at the back end of 2021, on those shows they played astonishing sets culled from their outstanding seventeen album back catalogue . The shows were as ever rapturously received by one of the most loyal followings in live music which includes an increasing number of young followers.

Formed in Bradford in 1980, New Model Army’s beginnings were inspired by Northern Soul, Punk Rock and the incendiary atmosphere of the times. Since then, they have had a long, creative and eventful journey. They have been massively influential in ‘post-punk’, ‘folk-rock’, ‘political-rock’, ‘goth’, ‘metal’ and all kinds of musical sub-cultures but they have steadfastly refused to belong to any club or style that would limit them.

Even without a specific ‘genre’ audience, New Model Army still have album sales in the millions, have attracted some of the biggest producers on the planet (Glyn Johns, Tom Dowd, Andy Wallace, Bob Clearmountain, Joe Barresi) and have built up an almost religious devotion amongst fans. There are very few bands in NMA’s position of being able to record and release what they like when they like, while maintaining a worldwide following and all without making a single artistic or commercial compromise.

Dave (all instruments) & Matt (voice) are Siberia, a post punk band from Ireland & the UK. Formed in 2016 they have recorded two albums ‘Turning Back Tides’ & ‘The God Complex’ & the critically acclaimed 4 tracker ‘Broken Things’.

The Siberian express has played across mainland Europe & the UK and have been described musically as somewhere between aggression and melancholy – ‘Where the gothic-rock of the nineties merges with the new-wave of the eighties projecting into the present!’ Wow! © Ascension Magazine Italy.

The Rose of Avalanche

More conceptually magnificent than the Ramones, more noisily beauteous than an hour in bed with a young Jane Fonda… Sounds Music Paper 1987

The Rose of Avalanche, formed in Leeds in 1984, came to prominence following heavy airplay of their debut single, the “apocalyptic epic” L.A. Rain, by the BBC disc jockey, John Peel. BBC Sessions with Peel and Janice Long followed and L.A. Rain sat proudly at number 26 in Peel’s 1985 Festive Fifty, above songs by The Cure, The Smiths and The Sisters of Mercy.

The band continued to dominate the indie scene of the period, with follow-up singles, Goddess, Too Many Castles in the Sky, Velveteen and Always There, all topping the indie charts. Successful tours supporting The Mission and support slots with David Bowie followed, but just as the band looked set for mainstream success, their meteoric rise was halted by a series of legal wrangles with their record label, leading to the eventual dissolution of the band.

Magnificently raw, beautiful and loud, The Rose of Avalanche are back to reclaim their rightful place at the top table of alt/goth/rock music.
