Formed by Justin Sullivan in Bradford in 1980, New Model Army’s beginnings were inspired by Northern Soul, Punk Rock and the incendiary atmosphere of the times. Since then, they have had a long, creative and eventful journey. They have been massively influential in ‘post-punk’, ‘folk-rock’, ‘political-rock’, ‘goth’, ‘metal’ and all kinds of musical sub-cultures but they have steadfastly refused to belong to any club that would have them as members.
Without a specific ‘genre’ audience, and never having had a massive worldwide hit single, New Model Army still have album sales in the millions, have attracted some of the biggest producers on the planet (Glyn Johns, Tom Dowd, Andy Wallace, Bob Clearmountain, Joe Barresi) and have built up an almost religious devotion amongst fans.
Having grasped early on that the Internet was going to revolutionise the music industry, from the mid-1990s they set out on the now fashionable wholly independent path of controlling all aspects of their output. As a result, they have been perfectly placed to withstand the changes in the Industry and have outlasted most of their peers. There are very few bands in NMA’s position of being able to record and release what they like when they like, while maintaining a worldwide following and all without making a single artistic or commercial compromise.
Recent years have also seen a revival in the band’s critical and commercial fortunes. “Between Dog and Wolf” and “Between Wine and Blood” (2013/14) and the “Winter” (2016) albums have all returned the band to the mainstream charts and seen their concert audiences once again on the increase.
Originally formed as a three piece, the current five piece features alongside Justin, Michael Dean on drums, Dean White on keyboards and guitar, Marshall Gill on guitar and Ceri Monger on bass.
This is a remarkable band - as hungry and focused as ever, with a continually regenerating audience and insatiable creative ambition

2018 saw Pop Will Eat Itself return to an almost-complete original line-up. Graham Crabb, original co-frontman and main songwriter welcomes back original members guitarist Richard March (also of Bentley Rhythm Ace), drummer Fuzz Townshend (now also a TV star via Car S.O.S.) and keyboardist Adam Mole. Gaye Byker On Acid & Apollo 440’s Mary Byker joins Crabb on vocals & Davey Bennett completes the line-up on bass.

This line-up was formed in 2011 & has stayed together ever since, recording two very well received albums 'New Noise Designed By A Sadist' and 2015's 'Anti Nasty League', a truly independent release only available from the band's own shop pop.shopwilleatitself.net and nowhere else. They have gone down a storm on recent visits to the States & Australia and are as fiery & energetic as ever.

During the Chameleons' early career, the British music press often used terms such as "sonic architects" and "sonic cathedrals" when describing the band, due to their atmospheric sound. Smithies and Fielding provided shimmering guitar riffs, while Lever and Burgess on drums and bass, respectively, gave the band a solid, rhythmic foundation.

The Chameleons emerged as Thatcherism was beginning to have its effect on England's former industrial towns, and their music was imbued with a sense of anxiety and a longing for the security of innocence. Burgess's impassioned vocal delivery complemented his lyrics, which touched on the alienation created in many British communities by the decline of manufacturing and industry, and the consequent disruption of social order. Despite the bleak landscapes they were surrounded by, the band were not weighed down by their environment, but attempted to triumph over it. Burgess said in 2013 that, though growing up in a post-industrial, northern town must have some influence on one's music, he felt the Chameleons would have sounded similar regardless of where they originated from

The Chameleons released their debut album, Script of the Bridge, in 1983. They followed it with What Does Anything Mean? Basically and Strange Times in 1985 and 1986

Known for their atmospheric, guitar-based sound and passionate lyrics, the Chameleons are regarded as one of the most underrated Manchester bands of the 1980s

Chameleons Vox is the continuation of The Chameleons (UK), arguably the most widely influential guitar band ever to come out of Manchester, England

Terminal Gods are a rock and roll band from London. They have a drum machine, some synths and some guitars. They write songs about paranoia, conspiracy and living the cliché. They do not break the fourth wall if they can help it.

Ethereal, hypnotic, driving, cinematic… these are good descriptions of Portland-based Mercury’s Antennae. Comprised of vocalist Dru Allen, multi-instrumentalist Erick r. Scheid and bassist Cindy Coulter, their sound ranges from shoegazey pop to unadorned acoustic beauty, earning them comparisons to ‘90s-era Projekt artists. This fits with Scheid’s founding of his first band Translucia, and Coulter and Allen’s history in This Ascension, but Mercury’s Antennae takes a modern approach, also drawing inspiration from ambient and contemporary electronica.

Mercury's Antennae was born in 2010 when Scheid recognized Allen out one night in San Francisco. He approached her with the idea of collaborating on music and an enduring connection formed, as Allen gave voice to a number of instrumentals Scheid had previously recorded. Other compositions came to life spontaneously as the two jammed with acoustic guitar and voice. They each brought their own unique approach to Mercury’s Antennae; Allen’s soaring, multilayer vocals fused with Scheid’s electronic experimentation and trusty guitars to create songs of rarefied style, power and grace. Coulter joined for the 2015 tour line-up, bringing an earthy, grounding element and fuller sound, officially turned the band into a trio.

Fans of darkwave, heavenly voices and spacious atmospheres have all found themselves at home with Mercury’s Antennae’s first full-length albums A Waking Ghost Inside and Beneath the Serene, both on Projekt. Between these two recordings, the band also released the digital-only EP The Guides (available on Projekt’s Bandcamp site), accompanied by the premiere of their first video, for the track “The Guides v.2.”

2018 has been a busy year for Mercury’s Antennae, whose spring tour culminated with their European live debut at Wave-Gotik-Treffen in Leipzig with Monica Richards from The Eden House and Faith and the Muse,Germany. In conjunction with the performance, the band released the special EP Moon Viewing Garden on Sett Records and the video for the title track.
Mercury’s Antennae brings their alchemy of harmonic, swirling guitars, lush instrumentation, and dream-felt sirenic vocals regularly to the live stage with West Coast and Pacific Northwest touring. They are currently finishing up work on their third album Among the Black Trees (Sett) which they plan to support with a more extensive tour schedule in 2019.

Saigon Blue Rain, formerly Stupid Bitch Reject was formed in september 2012 by Ophelia and Franck. Their first self-titled EP, released in March 2013 on Afmusic, has been critically acclaimed. The track Bean Niochain features on the Shadow Places compilation vol. 3, and many others has been played on several podcasts. Then, followed their first video illustrating the track Inside my asylum. They're currently working on the writing of a first album to be released on Cold Insanity Music.
This duo combines the french roots with the typical wavey sounds that remind of the classical new-wave such as The Cure or And Also The Trees, melted with shoegaze or ethereal wave influences and so, they form a sound image that you won’t hear everyday.
With her vocals, Ophelia lies somewhere between Cocteau Twins and All About Eve ; she comes up with a lot of passion and draws the listener away from reality with ease while the other instruments build an astounding wall of sound to perfect the whole.

Away, 1919, Motorama, Frank Christine Plays Viola is a band Abruzzo dedicated to a darkwave / post punk articulate, nuanced and born in Italy. After appearing on several compilations and after scoring three self-produced EP, in 2011 the band reached an agreement with the German label Af Music for the release of their first full length Innocent Awareness. The album gets a good response in the darkwave scene, with many songs played by DJs in european darkclubs. In the polls is considered one of the best productions of the year from radio, websites and magazines: even the guru Mick Mercer includes it in its top 30 of 2011. For The song Witch Of Silence, is made a video clip directed by Loreto Valente. In June 2012 the band released a new EP of four songs including Keep My Scorn Warm in collaboration with vocalist Rosetta Garri of The Spiritual Bat. In January 2013, the CPV were the band of the year for the German site “Static Magazin Germany". In recent years they have gained a good experience live mainly abroad (Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, England, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Poland) sharing the stage with bands like Clan Of Xymox, And Also The Trees, Pink Turns Blue, The Mary onettes, Modern English, Chameleons Vox, She Past The Baptist, NFD, The Exploding Boy, The Beauty Of Gemina.

Critically acclaimed as Germany’s by far most elaborate gothic rock band, Sweet Ermengarde echoes the British 1980s decade in all its gloom and doom. But the band is far from being a mere retro line-up. Sweet Ermengarde transpose their musical roots right into the heart of modernism and manages to create a sound close to the pulse of time: dark and atmospherically dense – with plaintive delayed guitars, epic soundscapes, trance-inducing drums and the grave bass guitar of the band’s founder Lars Kappeler. This exceptional blend is reigned by the characteristic sombre voice of singer Daniel.
Sweet Ermengarde is a band you should keep an eye on in the coming days. And in the ears anyway.
