Our Club Nights Hosts are the mighty PLANET X
Planet X first opened its dungeon like doors in 1983 and it quickly grew into one of Liverpool’s most famous underground & alternative clubs! Home of goths, punks, and weirdos it ran for 10 years until finally closing in 1993! However, in 2008 it celebrated its 25th anniversary and ever since it has held very successful reunions in various dives and clubs around Liverpool
The club is run by Doreen Allen, the high priestess of Voodoo kitsch and 50’s horror B-Movies. She came up with the idea to do a scouse version of the Batcave and Pete Burns and Wayne Hussey were early regulars. In fact, Doreen and her partner Kenny drove Wayne up to Leeds when he joined the Sisters of Mercy!
It’s easy to forget that Liverpool in the 80’s was a pretty scary place to be different & there really wasn’t many alternative clubs for the growing goth, post punk, new wave, psychobilly & rockabilly scene and Planet X with its dark cavern like feel, the coffins & cobwebs, the blood splattered mannequins was a welcome sanctuary for the assorted misfits and oddballs on Merseyside! The descent into the Planet X underworld was a wonderfully dark and evocative gothic experience particularly in the 80’s in fact it was so good that paradoxically it was the only place to be seen dead in!
